Getting Older & Age Spots | How to Safely Lighten Skin

June 21

Age spots, also referred to as brown spots, liver spots, & sun spots, generally begin to form as we get older due to increased production of skin pigment (melanin). Depending on your skin type, they can be preventable by minimizing sun exposure or other forms of UV light exposure, such as tanning beds.

Age spots range in color from light brown to black and have the same texture as the rest of your skin. The good news is they are not dangerous or harmful and cause no pain or health problems. The bad news is, they will not go away without treatment and in my opinion, just aren’t very attractive.

Age spots are most likely to appear on the face, hands, shoulders, and forearms, areas most exposed to UV radiation, but can appear on other areas of the skin as well.

Everyone is at risk for developing age spots, any age, sex, or race.

Certain factors can determine who is more at risk:

  • People over 40 years of age
  • Fair-skinned
  • Those exposed to the sun more frequently
  • History of frequent use of tanning beds

  • There are several treatments for age spots:

  • OTC creams w/ natural lighteners
  • Prescription bleaching creams
  • Laser therapy
  • Freezing
  • Dermabrasion & microdermabrasion

  • So, I told you the good news…not harmful and cause no pain or health problems. But I have even better news! Age spots can be safely lightened without expensive laser treatments or bleaching using natural lighteners, such as kojic acid, alpha-arbutin, and uva-ursi (bearberry extract). These extraordinary ingredients gradually lighten discolorations with no discomfort.

Our products for age spot treatment also contain nourishing antioxidants, moisturizing agents, and soothing extracts that reduce the appearance of lines & wrinkles, protect against ultraviolet radiation & free radical damage, and soothe & soften skin, creating an evener tone and more youthful appearance.

If you see discoloration and it is the same texture as the rest of your skin, chances are it is just a harmless age spot. However, if it appears rough, raised, bleeds, or changes appearance from its originality, seek medical attention because it could be a precancerous cell.

And remember, ALWAYS wear sunscreen, even under clothing.
