Cool Water Skin Benefits

March 30
Tips from Lisa

Cool water is very good for your skin! Have you ever noticed that when you wake up in the morning your face is a bit puffy? That's because while you sleep, skin cells regenerate & pores expand. Splash some cool water on your face in the morning and watch your skin come alive!

Now, having said that, ideally it is best to wash your face and all of your body skin with lukewarm water, rather than cold water. Hot water can strip skin of its natural oils, which help keep skin from drying out causing dead cells to form. Your natural oils also protect against harmful external irritants. Even if you have oily skin, stripping natural oils will make your skin overcompensate and produce an abundance of oil leading to shininess & clogged pores. Even though a steaming hot bath or shower sounds wonderful at times, it's actually very detrimental to your skin. If you need to do it now and then, just remember to cool your skin off afterward with some lukewarm to cooler water. You might feel a little chill afterward, but that's what they make sweats for right? Lukewarm water will still protect your skin's natural oils and it ensures your cleanser is activated & working properly.

You can also dip your face into ice water now and then and you will see immediate reduced puffiness & imperfections. However, I really can't imagine it's a pleasant experience (I haven't personally done it), but knowing what I know about the effects cold water has on skin, I'm confident it works. Try it and see how it goes. If you like what you see, save the next time for a special occasion. I bet your skin will look fabulous!

So, if we're washing our skin with lukewarm water as a rule, and it's good for our skin, why are we talking about putting cool to cold water on our skin? I'll tell you why.

Here's what cool water does for your skin:

  • Closes your pores, minimizing the invasion of impurities
  • Eliminates oils accumulated during sleep
  • Slows the aging process because it tightens skin, considerably reducing lines & wrinkles
  • Will NOT strip your skin barrier of its natural oils as hot water can & will cause skin to dry out
  • Soothes the eyes while also relieving overnight puffiness
  • Helps makeup stays fresher and last longer
  • Increases blood flow, providing skin with better free radical protection
  • Natural skin tightener, reducing fine lines & wrinkles considerably
  • Makes your skin and you feel more energized immediately
  • Acts as a toner, just like rose water
  • Adds extra protection against harmful UV sun rays but still apply sunscreen...cool water is just a booster
  • Skin immediately looks fresh & young

  • So now you know the wonderful benefits of cool water on the skin. However, your skin still needs nutrients that plain water cannot provide. So remember to still use nourishing and hydrating cleansers & moisturizers to keep skin healthy, vibrant, and more youthful.
